BNB Chain Spotlight: Mines of Dalarnia

Today in BNB Chain Project Spotlight we bring you Mines of Dalarnia, a play-and-earn adventure game in which players venture into mines to collect resources while navigating treacherous environments and battling fierce monsters.

1. Please describe Mines of Dalarnia to those unfamiliar with it. What's your vision and mission?

Mines of Dalarnia is a play-and-earn adventure game in which players venture into mines to collect resources while navigating treacherous environments and battling fierce monsters. The game also allows users to own and manage their own mining plots, renting it to other players to generate revenue. Our vision is to provide a high-quality game experience and sustainable economy that can entertain and reward stakeholders for years to come.

2. When was the idea behind Mines of Dalarnia born, and what led to it?

The first version of Mines of Dalarnia was released in 2018, with the vastly improved version 2.0 being developed over the last two years and released in April 2022. The explosion of interest in P2E gaming spurred the development and launch of the new version, which is one of the first fully featured games to deliver blockchain-integrated currency, equipment, and land ownership mechanics.

3. Tell us something about your team's background.

The primary development of MoD is done by Workinman Interactive, a game design and development studio that has been in business for over a decade. Keith McCollough is the COO of Workinman and the Game Director for Mines of Dalarnia, who works in tandem with a diverse team of developers and contributors to keep the project running smoothly.

4. What are the main advantages of Mines of Dalarnia for the user compared to a similar project from the mainstream gaming market?

The ability to own a piece of the game world and generate revenue by playing the game is the clear differentiation between Mines of Dalarnia and a mainstream gaming experience. Traditionally, games require you to continuously sink more money through microtransactions in order to stay competitive without receiving anything in return. In Mines of Dalarnia, the most engaged users are able to turn their efforts into real DAR tokens and make money.

5. What is the security strategy of your project?

Our team is primarily concerned with two security aspects – smart contracts (on chain) and client-side software monitoring (off chain).

The smart contracts used in MoD have been audited by third parties and have proven to be safe and secure for end users.

Running a project with client-side software keeps the team on our toes, as we are constantly adapting to thwart users who try to ‘game’ the system by making alterations on the client side to mine faster, collect more resources, get higher scores, etc.  These continuous efforts have also led us to restructure some of the underlying rewards mechanics of the game to reward honest play and detect dishonest users

6. Let's say I want to start playing Mines of Dalarnia. Where do I start? Where can I find some how-to guides?

Our website, www.minesofdalarnia.com, features a prominent ‘Download Now’ button which installs the client software onto your computer. Users also need to utilize Metamask from their mobile device to interact with BNB Chain. A full guide can be found here.

7. Why did you decide to migrate/build on BNB Chain?

BNB Chain offers significant gas savings over Ethereum, while keeping the familiar experience and feel that users expect. In addition, BNB Chain has a well-established NFT trading community which can support the various NFT contracts attached to our game.

8. What do you see as the main challenge for the future of DeFi?

Ease of use for the casual person. Once you are a Web3 veteran, it is easy to forget how intimidating blockchain and blockchain wallet software was at the beginning.

We are monitoring the available tools to interact with the blockchain side of our game, and intend to transition to a more streamlined experience in the future which will make the blockchain operations that occur within the game seamless.

9. Where do you see DeFi and BNB Chain in five years?

The blockchain gaming space is going to grow in a massive way over the coming years. With the boom of 2021, hundreds of projects got their start and over the next couple years, many of these projects will come onto the market. In the long run, games being ‘play-and-earn’ and incorporating NFT property will become the norm instead of the exception. We are at the beginning of a very fundamental change to the way people play games.

10. What are the benefits of interacting with your play-and-earn model?

I would say the biggest benefit is that the game itself is fun to play! For landowners, we offer a convenient in-game management tool that allows you to tweak your rent costs, perform upgrades, and more, directly in the interface.

12. Can we talk about the tokenomic model?

DAR is the native token of the game and acts as a governance token, reward token, and in-game economy token.

13. Is there any upcoming event you would like the BNB Chain community to know about?

We have recently released a major content update for a special event called Quicksilver Mines. In addition, we are always releasing new events, monsters, armor skins, and more. The best thing to do is to follow our social media and/or announcement channels (scroll up) to stay up to speed on everything going on!
