BNB Chain’s collaboration with the Blockchain Center of the University of Zurich (UZH BCC) made a lasting impression on participating students who got to grips with blockchain technology and the inherent opportunities to build.
BNB Chain’s participation in the UZH International Summer Schools 2022 program was led by Samy Karim, BD, Rumeel Hussein, Senior Blockchain Developer, and Alvin Kan, Ecosystem Coordinator for Games and NFT and Director of Data & Research at BNB Chain. All three are instrumental figures in BNB Chain’s progress and were well-placed to offer the students valuable insights in the industry.
The initial 90-minute session, led by Samy Karim, guided participants through blockchain basics, before elaborating on how smart contracts function as well as consensus mechanisms and governance. Students were rifling off questions throughout the session and displayed their clear ability to seamlessly navigate the complex ideas.
The participants then got to take a closer look at the work being carried out here at BNB Chain and how the relentless growth has been precipitated. WIth an overview of both Beacon Chain and BNB Smart Chain, students were given a glimpse into what BNB Chain’s core infrastructure that allows it to remain a community-first and open-source ecosystem.
This overview allowed students to gain an understanding of why Web3 decentralized applications are choosing to build on BNB Chain. With the low gas fees, dedicated community, and lightning quick, stable network the students understood the incentives. The next step was to begin thinking about the way some of these applications may begin to impact our lives in the near future, and the students were not short of ideas.
The quick-thinking responses on show underlines the importance of equipping students with the means to make their own mark on the space. The initial lecture went on to highlight the different avenues young people can take in becoming a part of BNB Chain, whether as developers, ambassadors, communicators or Martians. The session and responses were impressive.
“We at BNB Chain are thrilled to have had the opportunity to collaborate with such an intelligent and enthusiastic team of students. It was a great experience getting to know all of you and we are looking forward to continuing our contributions to your wider blockchain education initiatives, helping you understand the real world use cases of blockchain. This technology has enormous potential and we want to do everything we can to help more and more students tap into that potential.”

The second part of the session saw Rumeel Hussain offer students step-by-step live guidance on how they could begin to issue Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) (ERC721/1155) on the BNB Smart Chain (BSC) Testnet using the Black IDE. The detailed guide was dedicated to learning how to issue, mint and transfer NFTs on the BSC Testnet. The technology stack used in this tutorial included Solidity, Truffle, MetaMask, and BlackIDE.
The session saw students navigate the necessary steps and reach out if they encountered any issues. By the conclusion of the session participants gained knowledge on the following learning points:
Both sessions were thoroughly enjoyable for our team and offered some valuable insights to an already enthusiastic and creative group who look set to impact our space.
